Most fathers would be quite upset if their 15 year old son started wearing funny clothes and makeup. But it's OK with me, not because I agree with the recent cultural changes in our society, but because my son is a clown. Clowns wear funny clothes and makeup. It's OK. That's what clowns do.

But Pockets is a special clown. He is a gospel clown. Sure, he loves to make boys and girls and even grown-ups laugh, giggle, and chortle. In fact, he is quite good at that. But he also loves the Lord Jesus Christ and loves find creative ways to tell those boys, girls and grown-ups how much Jesus loves them. You see, Pockets the clown doesn't just make a fool of himself to make kids laugh. Pockets the clown makes himself a fool to make a point. The Apostle Paul wrote in the Bible to the Corinthian church saying-

1:18 "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength."

So, Pockets the clown is a fool for Christ, and that is an honorable thing. I, for one, am very proud of him. He is not only a very good clown, but a very good gospel clown, and a pretty good preacher of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. No father could be happier to see his son in funny clothes and makeup. Because he puts them on for all the right reasons.
